JRI America, a subsidiary of Japanese company Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, is to create 100 jobs in Tralee over the next five years.

A quarter of the roles being created are in finance security-related functions, and recruitment for the new roles is already underway.

The remainder of the positions will be in the areas of JRI America’s existing development, network, infrastructure, data centre support and helpdesk teams.

Managing director and general manager, CIO Americas and EMEA and president and COO of JRI America, Michael O’Dea said: “JRI America’s Tralee Technology Centre continues to expand upon its vital role assisting SMBC Group’s IT support in the Americas and EMEA.”

“Today’s announcement of the commencement of operations in our Security Operations Centre in Tralee is a welcome addition providing additional roles necessary to our Cybersecurity capability.”

Sumitomo, which is Japan’s second-largest bank by market capitalisation, employs nearly 300 staff across five entities in Ireland.

The group operates in more than 50 countries globally, offering a range of financial services, primarily banking-related, with the wider group also engaged in leasing, securities, credit cards, mortgage securitisation, venture capital and other credit related businesses.

IDA Ireland chief executive Martin Shanahan described the announcement as being of “substantial benefit to the local and regional economy.”

“It supports IDA’s strategy of winning additional investments for regional locations,” Mr Shanhan added.
