The agency, which promotes Irish food both domestically and abroad, was followed by the Credit Union.

Despite a poor performance from Ireland in this year’s Six Nations, the IRFU, which is the governing body for rugby here, jumped 12 places to rank third, ahead of Tourism Ireland in fourth. The only business to make it into the top five highly regarded organisations in Ireland was former national carrier Aer Lingus.

Niamh Boyle, managing director of The Reputations Agency, said: “A strong reputation increases support and delivers positive business results while helping to win customers, attract the right talent, and gain support from key stakeholders.”

The study is based on the perceptions of over 7,000 members of the public.

It measures the level of trust, respect, admiration and esteem the public has for 100 of the largest, most familiar, and most important organisations in Ireland, along with 25 other reputation indicators.

Three multinational businesses featured in the top 10: tech giant Samsung in sixth; food manufacturer Kelloggs in seventh; and discount grocery Aldi, which ranked eight.
